Sketch Book Reflection

My cover to my sketch book represents myself as a designer, I love the feel and beauty flowers and nature can bring to a space so I wanted to use a rose, which was also my inspiration for my room project. I also used many elements I learned over this semeseter, the colors are complementary red and green, the flower was placed in a grid format, I used hit-go-hit lines and professional gap in my border, as well as the use of architectural lettering.

Continuing to work on my architecture lettering, I reflected upon my sketches I have completed through the semester.

A Room to Read Process Poster

This process poster demonstrates my beginning skill level working with Photoshop and InDesign. Through self teaching and exploring these programs, I was able to convert my idea of a Room to Read into a 3 dimensional model and explain my thought process through this poster. The skills I demonstrate through this poster are sketching and planning a layout, working with a grid system, proximity of text and pictures, concept development, and overall cohesiveness to display my room.

Resume

A professional, yet personal resume is an important part of obtaining a job in the Interior Design field. Making a resume specifically for Interior Design, I was able to display some of my work, as well as continue to increase my skills in InDesign. With this resume, I not only was able to include my contact information, education, and work experience, I was able to list my skills and show some work I have completed so far in my classes, such as sketches and a poster from an owl exhibit I worked on, and a draft drawing of a wall elevation. I am excited to continue adding to my resume as I gain experience and work on new projects.

Design Logo

Starting off with sketching ideas of how to incorporate my initials; TW into my logo was fun but yet challenging to do, while keeping my design philosophy in mind.
After all my sketching, I decided this logo best represented where I wanted to go with my design. From creating the logo, changing the colors and  lines, creating a gray scale, and a document, I was able to increase my skills in Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign. This design is fun, and colorful, but yet organized and reflecting my view on interior design.

Sketches

A quick sketch of my keys, given about 5 minutes to draw, I am pleased with the outcome. With more time, better shading and proportions would be added.

Drawn on a basic white square napkin with a thin Sharpie, this sketch of my dorm room allowed my to practice drawing a room proportionately in an aerial view. I enjoyed doing this sketch because I felt like I was a designer about to redesign the room.
Sketching a chair may seem simple, but when I drew the chair in multiple angles, I was introduced to looking at objects in a different perspective. The end result was good, I learned that I need to draw proportionately and understand different angles of objects.

This sketch's goal was to draw fruit with the shading technique, crosshatch. This technique required strokes with graphite going horizontal was well a vertical instead of just basic shading.

For 15 minutes, I sat and created this mind map by starting of in the center with an element of design I admired most. From the word creativity, I branched out in several different directions and wrote what came to my mind, and pictures to go along with those words. This sketch allowed me to reminisce on all my favorite parts of design, starting with creativity.

Drawing a still life is one of  my favorite things to draw, I get to capture the objects exactly as they are. I am very pleased with the outcome of this drawing and liked drawing the unique details inside each piece of fruit.
Figure drawing I learned is important when drawing in perspective to show scale and proportion. Only outlining and adding minimal detail is when figure drawing is the most effective.
Shading and drawing negative space were the skills practiced in this drawing. There is more detail in my drawing that the scanner did not pick up.

Drawing on black paper with color pencil was a challenge because it required applying a lot of pressure and technique to show up the way I wanted it to on the paper.
By starting with a simple sketch in ink and grasping the basic shadowing that occurs from a window, I was able to further develop my skill in adding darker detail to show shape and shadow.

Egyptian Textile Design

This textile is inspired from Egypt within the time 4500BCE to 30 CE.  Most of the images were found carved into stone; usually of animals, eyes, intricate designs, and men and women working. Derived from this time period were recurring colors such as; reds, oranges, yellows, and blues, stone carvings, pottery, and activities such as hunting and serving the royalty. Through creating this textile, I was able to further my skills in Photoshop and practice incorporating multiple elements into one cohesive piece. I see a great amount of increased skill from my previous Photoshop experience and feel I have positively progressed.

Geometric Pattern

This geometric pattern was inspired by Egypt from the time period of 4500 BCE to 30 CE. Creating this pattern, I was introduced to many new techniques used in interior design. Starting with researching this period, collecting images, tracking the sources, manipulating the images with Photoshop and placing them into a geometric pattern, this project well an all around learning experience. I am pleased with the outcome because the Photoshop program was brand new to me and I am pleased with the outcome.
